Proposals and Grant Applications
This week, I have had so many meetings scheduled, it’s hard to keep track! I first met with the whole group, as usual on Monday morning, which was great because our interns have been taking turns moderating the weekly meetings. I then had meetings scheduled with a prospective freelance illustrator for our books, with our marketing director, Chen, to talk about the layout for my book, and with Wei to go over the proposal for Birmingham Heritage Week and The Awesome Foundation Application.
It has been a lot of fun and very rewarding to work on these projects as I have been able to talk on Weipoint’s behalf to a number of interesting people and organisations. I am very much looking forward to seeing what the outcome of our proposal is and whether we will be able to take a more active role in the heritage of the city.
My book draft is now complete and Chen is designing how the finished product will look. My challenge for this week was to come up with what photos I needed and decide whether photos or graphics would better suit the tone of the book. This is not something I have done before (I have done content creation before but I am not usually involved in the visual side of things) so it took me a while to get into the swing of things.
I have also launched our giveaway campaign for followers of our Instagram page. Having a hand in this campaign was very exciting for me, as I have never used social media in quite this way before. Coordinating everything across our accounts has been quite difficult but rewarding and we have already had a great response from our first post. I hope that we can use this campaign to get the word out about our new range of books, the Atlas of Birmingham, as we have all worked very hard to kick off this range and it is something that Wei has been working on for a long time.
Finally, I am also going to be working on proposing some events at Birmingham Tech Week. Hosted in October, Tech Week celebrates technological advancements in the region and gives local tech companies the chance to demonstrate their work and how they are adapting to the changing work of tech. Overall, it has been a busy and exciting week this week and I think next week will be more of the same!
