Winterbourne House and Garden

Title: Winterbourne House and Garden

Built in: 1904

Location: 58 Edgbaston Park Rd, Birmingham B15 2RT

Short intro: An Edwardian house and botanical garden, cared for by the University of Birmingham

Description: Winterbourne House was constructed in 1904 as a family home for the Birmingham businessmen and social reformer John Nettlefold. It was occupied by another family, the Wheelocks, after John Nettleford moved away for his health.  By 1944 Winterbourne was gifted to the University of Birmingham, who have cared for it ever since. Visitors to the house today can learn about the history of the house and the people who lived in it. The rooms have been recreated to represent the house as it would have looked when the Nettleford family lived in it. The gardens have also been restored, containing plants from all around the globe, featuring specimens from China and the Americas.
