Description: Joseph Chamberlain commissioned Highbury Hall to be his Birmingham residence two years before he became the city’s representative in Parliament in 1880, naming it after the area he lived in as a child in London. Chamberlain lived in the house until his death in 1914, and during the first world war, the Hall would see itself used as a hospital annex and home for disabled soldiers injured in the conflict. By 1932, the Corporation of Birmingham oversaw the building, and in 1984 the Hall and grounds were restored. Today the Hall is used as a conference centre, and occasionally even as a pop-up restaurant! The House itself can be viewed by appointment, and the grounds are Highbury Park: an area of parkland accessible and open for the enjoyment of the public.
