The Library of Birmingham

Title: The Library of Birmingham

Built in: 2013

Location: Centenary Square

Short intro: Birmingham’s modern library, and its picturesque rooftop garden.

Description: Easily accessible via Centenary square, the Library of Birmingham has been described as the largest public library in the United Kingdom, as well as the largest cultural space in Europe. Since its opening, the library has become a major cultural centre in the city. The library is home to the city’s internationally relevant archival collections, opened up to the public via a state-of-the-art gallery. The Library features the Shakespeare memorial room, a room that was formerly dedicated to housing the Shakespeare memorial library, which has now outgrown it. The room has been deconstructed and rebuilt twice since 1882 as the library in Birmingham has changed and moved. The Secret Garden on the seventh-floor terrace of the library provides an excellent spot to take in Birmingham’s ever-changing skyline and scenery.
