J. W. Evans Silver Factory

Title: J. W. Evans Silver Factory

Built in: 1881

Location: 54-57 Albion Street, Birmingham, B1 3EA

Short intro: iconic historic silverware manufacturer.

Description: J. W. Evans is the most complete surviving factory in the jewellery quarter. The workshops are nestled behind the frontage of four terraced houses, a hangover from the workshops themselves being nineteenth-century houses converted for industrial use. The factory was originally founded in 1881 by Jenkin Evans, remaining with the family for four generations. The factory contains its original equipment, and visitors can see how the different stages of silverware production would have been carried out, and experience the environment that Jewellery quarter factory workers would have toiled in for over 100 years. The museum can be toured by appointment.
