The Old Crown pub
Title: The Old Crown pub
Built in: 1450-1500
Location: Digbeth High Street, Birmingham B12 0LD
Short intro: The oldest non-religious building in Birmingham
Description: it is believed that the Old Crown was constructed between 1450-1500. The building is noted in 1538 as a “mansion house of tymber”, and is thought to have been originally used as the Guildhall and School of St. John, Deritend. The earliest evidence of the building as being used as an Inn is from 1626, with it being named the Crown from 1666. After surviving fierce fighting in Birmingham during the English civil war, and being used as housing from 1684 to 1851, the building fell into disrepair. The Old Crown was restored to its former glory as of 1998, and remains as a functioning pub today.
