Short intro: A Victorian geological museum redeveloped and reinvented for the modern-day
Description: Entirely free to visit, the Lapworth Museum of Geology is one of the oldest specialist geological museums in the United Kingdom. The museum is named after Charles Lapworth, the first professor of Geology at Mason College, a precursor to the University of Birmingham. The museum uses its collections (whose 250,000 items are of international significance) to tell the story of the evolution of life and of the planet over 4.5 billion years of history. The evolution of life gallery boasts skeletons of the dinosaur Allosaurus and the flying reptile Pteranodon, as well as well-preserved fossilised specimens of creatures that would once have occupied the West Midlands.
