Our Programmes
Little Edward
The Little Edward programme is an art competition aimed at school-aged children in Birmingham. We hope to discover young artistic talent which we will then showcase through our social media platforms, website and merchandise!
This project will not only be a fun, creative activity to keep children entertained during the Coronavirus restrictions but also an incentive for them to explore their city and engage with local history and culture.
At The Atlas of Birmingham, we pride ourselves on promoting local history, local culture but most importantly, local people. We want to support young artists in their creative endeavors and shine light on the undiscovered talent Birmingham has to offer.
Why ‘Little Edward’?
Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones was a Birmingham born artist and designer associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement. The Pre-Raphaelites were a secret society of artists who wanted to challenge the status quo and redefine ‘ideal’ art in the 19th century. They proved scandalous, and many were at first horrified by their use of bright, bold colours that made their works stand out.
In the spirit of Burne-Jones and the groundbreaking Pre-Raphaelites, The Atlas of Birmingham invites young artists to submit their own works of art. This competition is open to all young artists who want their art to be challenging and different
