Girl in a Hat

Title: Girl in a Hat

Built in: 1972

Location: Chancellor’s Court, University of Birmingham.

Short intro: a casual, bronze sculpture in the centre of the University Campus

Description: This bronze sculpture depicts a woman wearing nothing but her hat. She stands relaxed against a rail, and surveys all those walking through Chancellors court, in front of the Great Hall of the University of Birmingham. Girl in a Hat was sculpted by Bernard Sidal, and donated to the University by Sir Robert and Lady Aitken in 1968, after Sir Robert retired as Vice-Chancellor. Since then, she has been painstakingly restored to her current glory.
